Thanks to support from the Education Authority, National Lottery and Children in Need we were able to produce a mid-term scheme this February. The young people got to visit a number of educational sites to help with their learning and development. Here they are visiting the Aquarium in Portaferry.
4 Corners Social Action Day
Young people involved in the Ambassadors for Peace Project joined together to undertake some social action as part of the 4 Corners Festivals project on shared spaces and shared heritage with the help and support fo Belfast City Council Cemetery Staff. The young people were joined by local councillors and MLA’s for a tour by Tom Hartley and then undertook a littler pick in City Cemetery. The young people learned the value and respect the cemetery deserves.
Common Purpose Presentations
Ten of our young people from Lower Falls and Lower Shankill took part in the Youth Work Alliance programme called Common Purpose. These young people were trained by Queens University in Peer Research and undertook research in their community, developed a response and delivered a project for their peers. The project was a huge success and here you can see Tony Walsh, Chair of our Members Committee recieving his certificate from Dr. Colm Walsh (QUB).

Rochdale's Sunrise Team Visit
In partnership with West Belfast CIT’s Community Safety Team we hosted Rochdales Sunrise Team in our centre today (1/2/24). The visit was very helpful in exploring the learning and developing new mechanisms for working with CSE.

Holocaust Memorial Day Photo Exhibition Launch
The young people from the Ambassadors for Peace Programme undertook a project to help with remembering the people who have suffered as a result of the worlds genocides. The photographic exhibition was launched in Shankill Library on Thursday 25th Jan 2024 and was a combination of personal testimonies, a music piece with Ulster Orchestra and the photos. The event was very well attended and the young people who ran the day were really pleased with the outcome. The legacy of the project will be three months of exhibition teaaching others visiting NI Libraries of the impacts of hate and prejudice.
Ambassadors for Peace Anti-Semitism Photo Exhibition - Shankill Library 25th Jan 4.30
The young people involved in the Ambassadors for Peace Programme from Townsend Street Outreach and St. Peters Immaculata YC have been working with Ulster Orchestra, Libraries NI and the Holocaust Memorial Trust to create a photographic and music piece that examines and explores the impacts of prejudice and discrimination that leads to genocide as happened in Poland. We are inviting all parents, VIP and supporters to the launch event on the 25th Jan at 4.30pm in Shankill Library as our memorial event for Holocaust Memorial Week 2024. The exhibition will be in place for a month before moving to Falls Library in February.
Art Therapy
One of our staff continues to facilitate and support young people using art therapy. This is facilitated in small groups and for individuals through our National Lottery funding.
